Sussex drinks makers enjoy a double celebration
A PORTSLADE couple are “over the moon” after their spicy ginger drink saw off international challengers to win a gold medal in a prestigious competition. The award-winning drink is Gran Stead’s Fiery Ginger won Gold in the British Bottlers’ Institute (BBI) annual awards and is prepared by hand at Mile Oak Farm by Chris and Rosemary Knox.
“It’s a double celebration for us at Gran Stead’s Ginger Co. as this year marks 10 years since Rosemary and I took over the business from my parents and moved production to Mile Oak Farm,” said Chris. “This award means so much to us. We’ve come a long way since my father Len bottled the drinks in the family kitchen while Mum stuck on the labels in the lounge.”
Gran Stead’s Ginger Co now supplies around 700 stockists across the UK and exports to several countries including Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus and the Netherlands.
Chris and Rosemary, who produce five alcohol-free drinks in total, received their award at the BBI Gala Dinner, which took place at Vintners’ Hall in London on October 23.
Gran Stead’s website carries a list of stockists and the drinks can also be bought online.
