Our non-alcoholic ginger drinks are enjoyed by our fans as far away as Belarus and Prague, but it is our local market which has had a huge boost in recent months.
Thanks to our new local delivery service we have been delighted to bring our range of refreshing drinks to more venues across Sussex and Surrey, from farm shops to village delicatessens.
Once a week, our van is on the road delivering our range within a 50-mile radius of our HQ in Portslade for free* - travelling as far as just inside the M25 in the north, across to our friends at Crockford Bridge Farm in Addlestone in the west of Surrey and right over to the Sussex/Hampshire border, where the Stansted Park Farm Shop has added us to their extensive range of locally sourced food and drink.
We’ve even made it on to the Local Heroes `wall’ of Jempson’s family-owned supermarkets’ website.
“When my parents, Len and Dot, first started making Gran Stead’s Mellow Ginger in their home kitchen, they went door to door locally to sell the drinks, so keeping it local is at the heart of our story,” says Chris Knox who makes the Gran Stead’s drinks with his wife Rosemary at Mile Oak Farm. “Our local delivery service is going back to the personal touch and it is a great way of getting feedback from the venues which stock us.”
As well as the full range of drinks, we are proud to deliver a wonderful selection of ginger jams and marmalades made for us by Auntie Val’s based in Storrington, including the breakfast favourite, Root Ginger & Seville Orange Marmalade and jams such as Rhubarb and Ginger and Seriously Ginger.
Among the latest venues is the café at the RSPB Pulborough Brooks which is on a mission to source as locally as possible.
“We use Gran Stead’s because supporting local suppliers is good for the local economy and good for the environment,” says Julianne Evans, RSPB Pulborough Brooks Senior Site Manager. “Plus, we love the fact the drinks are homemade using traditional recipes!”
The RSPB café stocks Gran Stead’s Mellow and Fiery Ginger Wine, Lemonade with Zing and Blackcurrant with Zing in 250ml bottles and proudly displays a notice telling customers that the drinks are made locally by Chris and Rosemary and the Mellow Ginger Wine is from a 150-year-old recipe.
*A minimum spend of £50-£100 (depending on location) guarantees free delivery of Gran Stead’s drinks and preserves within a 50-mile radius of Mile Oak Farm, Portslade.
