Gran Stead’s Ginger Co takes gold in international competition

British Bottlers’ Institute (BBI)Sussex based Gran Stead’s Ginger Co has beaten off global competition to go gold in a prestigious drinks contest. Chris and Rosemary Knox  are delighted that their brand new drink, Spiced Ginger Punch, has been awarded the highest accolade in the British Bottlers’ Institute (BBI) contest.

The winning drink is prepared by hand by the husband and wife team and is the latest in the collection of six alcohol-free beverages. It is the third gold awarded to Gran Stead’s by the BBI, following wins for their Mellow Ginger in 2013 and Fiery Ginger in 2014. Gran Stead’s Blackcurrant with Zing also achieved a BBI Diploma in 2014.

“The BBI is highly regarded in our business,” said Chris Knox. “We know that there is always strong competition, and even more so since the category we were competing in has been broadened. We are absolutely thrilled to be awarded our third gold.”

The annual competition was established in 1953 to test the quality of beverages around the world. The rigorous judging process by a panel of independent experts awards each drink points for colour, aroma and flavour. Gran Stead’s Spiced Ginger Punch was entered into the Premium Soft Drinks category.

Chris and Rosemary are now looking forward to the BBI Gala Awards Dinner later this year.

Gran Stead’s traditional drinks free from artificial sweeteners and preservatives and are inspired by a historic, 19th Century recipe, which can be traced back to the original “Granny Stead” - Christiana Stead, who lived in County Durham.

The last time I experienced that lovely taste was in the late forties and fifties and I had given up hope of ever tasting it again.
